You can customize the etching by choosing scenes, images and sayings. But I don’t think you can do this by yourself. You can contact a local memorial stone maker who offers hand and laser etching service.
It’s nice to know that granite and marble are quite common materials to use for flat grave markers. My family is considering to get a new one for my grandmother’s grave because her marker recently got a huge crack on it. We still don’t know what caused it but it’s pretty bad that it will surely need a replacement.
